The one day free dental camp was organized by Kantipur Dental College Teaching Hospital Research Center in association with Lions Club of Kathmandu, Midtown on 23rd January 2017.
The camp location was Nepane Secondary School, Kerabari Ward no-1 The school was reconstructed after the 25th April, 2015 earthquake by the Gorkha Foundation and the local authorities. A team of six intern doctors carried out a comprehensive dental checkup, hand scaling and extractions.
There were 9 VDCs in the village but just few people attended the dental camp as there was some other programme in the community the same day.
Around 70 people from the village were benefited from this dental health camp. Three different methods were adapted for motivating dental awareness to the people of the village.
Out of the 70 people that were examined, 57 of them needed treatment for dental caries. Almost all of them needed counseling and guidance on maintaining proper oral hygiene. Among the participants, 20 were male and 50 were female. The participation was not as much as we expected.
The treatment needs were high in the community and the oral hygiene seemed to be a neglected part. The motive of the dental camp was achieved to its maximum with the efforts of all the people involved. The response of the people was positive and the camp was deemed successful.
