Kantipur Dental College Teaching Hospital and Research Center has started oral cancer screening program at Tokha chandeswori Primary health care center from 11 th sept 2017. This screening program will be now conducted last Monday of every month from 10 am till 1 pm.First program was led by Dr Dipshikha Bajracharya ( senior consultant from Department of Oral pathology)
This program is conducted with an aim of spreading Awareness related to oral cancer and focus on preventive measures and early detection of oral cancer. Since oral cancer shows some precancerous symptom that is called “Precancerous lesion or Precancerous condition and that can be detected earlier through examination which will help prevent oral cancer if detected early. Team from kantipur dental college is using toludine blue staining as a tool to help in detection of any Precancerous changes in oral cavity. Toludine blue staining is a simple , non invasive process that doesnot take much time. Patient are allowed to gargle mouth with the toludine blue and it’s uptake determines the result. One with positive result will be send for a biopsy for confirmation
People who have red or white lesion in oral cavity, who have swelling, chronic infection, burning mouth, non healing ulcers etc and chronic smokers and chronic tobacco users are encouraged to go for screening . Any people with or without any deleterious habit can undergo this screening to ensure one is free from symptom of cancer.
