Department of community and public health dentistry, KDCH conducted a free dental camp at Shree Buddha public school , Tikabhairav, lalitpur on 23rd September which was led by Dr Smita Dhakal along with her team. Team had an objective of screening, teachers training and oral hygiene instructions to school children and providing some simple curative treatment like ART and simple extraction. Almost 400 children were screened and majority had problem of dental caries. Few had gingivitis and children between age of 6 to 12 had mobile tooth . Tikabhairav is almost 25 kilometers away from Kathmandu district yet most of the children’s were unaware of oral hygiene methods. Few students had no habit of brushing even once. Most of them were unaware of importance of oral health.Team of doctors trained the villagers and teaching staffs on oral care. Doctors provided oral hygiene instruction to individual classes from nursery to class 10 along with demonstration of tooth brushing techniques.Few pictures and pamphlets were distributed for oral health awareness. Emergency care was provided to few needful students . Simple extraction were done and free medicine were distributed to needy. At the end of the oral health program somehow the dental team was able to instill a positive attitude in school children towards oral health . Locals and teaching faculty were very co-operative . They thanked the doctors team and requested for follow up camps in future.
