A medical/dental student is ought to develop the “competency to determine and resolve health problems of the community”. Our curriculum is designed accordingly and is“community-oriented rather than hospital centered”. Community service helps the students to develop and practice empathy, compassion and complacency which are required for the realization of patient care. Keeping this in mind, Kantipur Dental College has been organizing a variety of community-based oral health programs since its establishment. Program under community services are:
Oral health promotion and prevention has emphasized on the enhancement of overall health, well-being, education and development. Different prevention and promotion programs have been organized in conjunction with dental camps at various community and school sectors. The Community health camps and the School health camps have been very effective to outreach the underprivileged scattered throughout the country.
A special care unit has been extended in conjunction with the Department of Community & Public Health Dentistry to cater the service to the group patients from the community with special care needs such as the patients with contagious disease.
The college and hospital is strengthened with its associated satellite dental centers located in various parts of the country including Maharajgunj (Kathmandu), Pokhara, Narayanghat, Butwal, Birgunj and Dhangadhi. The centers are being used for community exposure of the students.
A mobile dental van; first and only of its kind in the country is equipped with dental chair, dental x-ray and all dental equipments and instruments; is available for community programs and dental camps. In addition, an ambulance is available for emergency service.
College bus facility is available for students and staffs for field visit and community services.
