Kantipur Dental College Teaching Hospital & Research Center hosted a two-day Special Needs Dentistry Program from December 11 to 12, 2024, in collaboration with distinguished delegates from Taiwan, including the Rotary Club of Wuku, New Taipei City (RID 3490), Rtn. Dr. Spring Yuan, Mrs. Yuan, Ms. Meichou (public health expert), Maya, and Professor HM Chen from National Taiwan University Hospital.

Day 1 – December 11, 2024

The first day focused on introducing the Special Needs Dentistry Project in Nepal, initiated in 2018. Delegates were warmly welcomed to Kantipur Dental College/Hospital, where the significance of the project was highlighted on behalf of PP RC of Kathmandu North and the Chairperson of Kantipur Dental College and Hospital.

Discussions revolved around establishing a dedicated oral care center for special needs patients at KDC Hospital, its services to different centers, and community outreach. Faculty and participants from Pediatric Dentistry, Public Health Dentistry, Endodontics & Conservative Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, and Oral Medicine, Diagnosis & Radiology actively contributed to discussions, sharing insights on strategies, patient care protocols, and collaborative initiatives.

Day 2 – December 12, 2024

On the second day, the program continued with a practical session on providing oral care to special needs patients, offering participants hands-on training and real-world applications of the techniques discussed on Day 1.

A competition was organized around the topic, fostering collaboration and active engagement among participants. Winners received exciting gifts, adding a fun and motivational element to the session. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to attendees and certificates of appreciation to team members who significantly contributed to the initiative.

The two-day program highlighted inclusive oral healthcare, international collaboration, and professional skill development, reflecting Kantipur Dental College’s dedication to excellence in dental education and community service.
