Previously, Kantipur School of Dentistry and Dental Hospital (KSD) was established in Aug 10, 1997 at Maharajgunj, Kathmandu as the first dental school in Nepal with the support from Buddhi Bangara Foundation-Japan. The institute was established with the aim to produce qualified dental manpower and to provide oral health care service in the country. Kantipur Oral Health Foundation is one of the pioneers in the organized sector of oral health in Nepal. Since the establishment, the institution has been working continuously to achieve its mission to establish a center of excellence in dental education, service, research and professional development.

Kantipur Dental College has been offering formal education in dentistry at various levels. The programs include: Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Master of Dental Surgery affiliated to Kathmandu University (KU), Certificate in Dental Science (Dental Hygiene), Diploma in Pharmacy affiliated to Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT). Besides, the institution has been offering short-term non-formal courses as Dental Chair-side Assistant, Dental Lab Technician and Dental Nurse.

Kantipur Dental Hospital was established in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu in 1997; later its branches were established in various locations of Nepal including: Jawalakhel (Lalitpur), Bouddha (Kathmandu), Pokhara, Chitwan, Birgunj, Butwal and Dhangadi. Presently, Kantipur Dental Hospital branches are operating in Pokhara, Narayangarh and Butwal. Kantipur Oral Health Foundation has been organizing community oral health programs including dental camp, school oral health program, training etc on various occasions.
