Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure used to treat a damaged or infected tooth. The treatment involves removing the damaged or infected pulp (soft tissue inside the tooth) and cleaning and disinfecting the root canals (the channels inside the root of the tooth). The canals are then filled with a special material and sealed to prevent further infection.
Root canal treatment may be necessary if a tooth has a deep cavity, crack, or trauma that has damaged the pulp. If left untreated, the damaged or infected tooth can cause pain, swelling, and even lead to tooth loss.
The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia to numb the affected area, and may require one or more visits to complete, depending on the severity of the problem. After the procedure, patients may experience some discomfort or sensitivity for a few days, but this can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
